Enabling & accelerating values-based innovation for sustainable economies

— so we leave no one behind.

About us

Technology in service of human flourishing.

Rooted in Ubuntu
Community and practice — our humanity is interconnected with all life

The Centre for Responsible and Regenerative Technology (CRRT) is a mission-driven institution dedicated to advancing technology that strengthens human flourishing, community resilience, and ecological well-being. Rooted in the principles of Ubuntu — recognizing that our humanity is interconnected with all life — CRRT operates at the intersection of research, innovation, and community practice.

We ensure that emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and data systems, are developed and deployed in ways that are ethical, inclusive, and regenerative. The Centre champions locally grounded and globally connected solutions by bringing together communities, researchers, governments, entrepreneurs, and knowledge holders to co-create technologies that address real-world challenges — in sustainable development, climate resilience, food systems, education, and economic opportunity.

Through ecosystem building, applied research, skills development, and community-centered innovation, CRRT helps shape a future in which technology serves people, communities, and the planet rather than extracting value from them.

Our approach

Responsible & regenerative, by design.

CRRT is a multi-disciplinary and distributed centre, built to intentionally identify, support and accelerate emerging best practices for technology that is supportive of people, planet and profit. We remove obstacles and define new development pathways that are responsible and regenerative.

Responsible

The practice of designing and deploying digital systems that proactively anticipate unintended harms, establish and maintain transparency, and prioritize inclusive access.

Regenerative

Embedding principles of restoration and renewal — so the future of technology actively contributes to long-term human and planetary well-being.

Our vision is our mission

Three commitments that anchor everything we build.

01

We intentionally enable and accelerate the design, development and deployment of technology that is pro-human and pro-nature.

02

We centre African and indigenous knowledge systems embedded in language as critical inputs into the best-case future of regenerative technology development.

03

We support the shift to a Wellbeing economy that values people, planet and prosperity.
